Racing Since the 1970s

Buxton Raceway, originally known as ‘High Edge’, has a proud history stretching back to the early 1970s.

Former promoter Dave Pierce recalled:

“Racing originally started at Buxton in 1974. I have tried to find out the exact date from George Mycock’s widow but she is uncertain. All it was at first was a field with huge tyres around the outside and it has since obviously progressed to what it is today.”»

Many drivers and fans who remember those early days also date the beginning of racing at the venue to around 1972/73.

From humble beginnings as a field surrounded by huge tyres, Buxton Raceway has evolved into the established motorsport venue it is today — while retaining the character, atmosphere and passion that have made it such a special place for generations of racing fans.

From Oval Racing to Drifting

Buxton Raceway isn’t just about oval racing.

Our hugely popular Drifting Events have become an important part of the Raceway calendar, attracting drivers from across the country for days packed with sideways action, tyre smoke and spectacular driving.

Over the years, a number of drivers have used Buxton as a place to develop their skills before going on to achieve success at national level.

Whether you prefer your racing wheel-to-wheel, nose-to-tail or sideways, Buxton Raceway has something for you.
